In 2011, Lawal founded HBCU Buzz, a multimedia company that focuses on uplifting and amplifying the Black college experience and voices. Over the years, it has quickly become a “leading source of HBCU News, Sports & Entertainment,” with a pure focus on HBCUs and news that is relative to their respective campuses.

Now, in this new space, Lawal wants to ensure that the culture and community are able to tap into the resources and opportunities provided through the metaverse and web3 space.

“HBCU students, alumni, and supporters deserve the opportunity to learn about and participate in cryptocurrency from a trustable source,” said Lawal. “10 years ago HBCU Buzz pioneered a space for Black college news, becoming the leading news outlet in the HBCU community. In our second decade, we are excited at the opportunity to educate students and alumni on the numerous benefits and advantages of understanding crypto. $HBCU seeks to pioneer a new space, this time in the metaverse. As a former student, proud alum, and avid HBCU supporter myself, the $HBCU coin is minted with purpose and consideration for each niche audience.”
