‘I don’t even know what a Bitcoin is’: Brisbane Lions and Adelaide Strikers team up with … – Stockhead

Professional Aussie sports clubs are seemingly frothing for crypto-related partnerships. And one of Australia’s top exchanges, Swyftx, is at it again, announcing deals with the Brisbane Lions AFL club and the Adelaide Strikers Big Bash League cricket franchise.

This all comes hot on the heels of Swyftx’s recent Repco Bathurst 1000 collaboration, the  Sydney Swans and Independent Reserve crypto exchange partnership announced the other day, and the Perth Heat baseball club’s eye-opening adoption of “the Bitcoin Standard”.

And Swyftx and Independent Reserve aren’t the only major Aussie-based exchanges involved in the local sports scene, either. For instance, CoinJar and CoinSpot both already sponsor AFL clubs – the Melbourne Demons and the Western Bulldogs, respectively.

As for the Lions and Swyftx, they’ve struck an initial two-year deal that will see the exchange join the AFL franchise as its official Coaches Partner.

What that actually means seems to be an exploration of investment opportunities, according to the Lions CEO Greg Swann in a press announcement made by the club.

Founded in 2018, Swyftx is a Brisbane-headquartered exchange and has quickly grown to become one of Australia’s most prominent crypto-trading platforms, with more than 470,000 customers across Australia and New Zealand.

Its CEO, Ryan Parsons, said: “This partnership brings together the best AFL team in Australia and its most popular cryptocurrency exchange. We’re both progressive teams with strong values so we’re delighted to be joining forces.”

Lions head coach Chris Fagan, in true press-releasey form, backed up this sentiment with…

“In Swyftx I see an organisation that has achieved incredible growth and delivered a first-class platform for their clients.’’

That’s all good, Fages, but tell us what you know about crypto…

“I don’t even know what a Bitcoin is,” the coach revealed in an amusingly honest video spot shared by the team.

To be fair, as the head coach of a professional sports team, he’d probably have a fair bit to occupy his mind other than working out how to buy crypto and what decentralised, peer-to-peer blockchain networks are all about… although he did express a desire to learn more about it all.

Swyftx partners with the Adelaide Strikers

The Adelaide Strikers Big Bash League (BBL) cricket franchise has also struck a major sponsorship deal with Swyftx, just announced this week.

This agreement will garner some decent exposure for the crypto exchange, with its logo set to appear on the back of Strikers playing tops during the current season of the KFC BBL.

This makes Swyftx Australia’s first crypto platform to sponsor a major Australian cricket team. And, if the AFL is any indication, perhaps other BBL teams will be swift to follow suit with some of the other major local exchanges.

Adelaide Strikers are pleased to announce a new major partnership with @SwyftxAU, an Australian owned and operated crypto exchange.

Andrew Sweet, the chief commercial officer for the South Australian Cricket Association, had this to say about the new partnership:

“The BBL is a leader in Australian sports entertainment, and the Strikers are excited to welcome a leading crypto exchange to the team. We are always looking for ways to innovate and inspire, and this partnership with Swyftx helps us achieve that.”

“Swyftx are committed to maintain our status as Australia’s most trusted crypto exchange,” said Chris Vanek, Swyftx’s chief marketing officer. “Being the first Australian cryptocurrency exchange to sponsor a major cricket team is a huge milestone.”
