Inter Milan have agreed a deal with EBay that sees the ecommerce platform become the Italian soccer giants’ new sleeve sponsor.

The two-year agreement ensures that EBay’s logo will appear on the club’s men’s and women’s teams’ sleeves until the end of the 2023/24 season. The deal also features a package of branding inventory across the Serie A club’s physical and digital assets.

The agreement builds on the partnership that was signed at the start of the 2022/23 season that saw Inter launch a dedicated ecommerce portal on EBay.

Cryptocurrency brand DigitalBits was the club’s sleeve sponsor last season, before stepping up to take on the main shirt inventory at the start of the 2022/23 campaign. However, last month Inter confirmed plans to terminate their €85 million (US$90.38 million) agreement with Zytara Labs, the parent company of DigitalBits, after multiple missed payments left the blockchain brand owing the club €17 million (US$18.08 million).

While the new deal will go some way to making up some of that commercial shortfall, Inter recently reported losses of €140 million (US$148.91 million) for the 2021/22 financial year as they continues to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Alessandro Antonello, Inter chief executive: “We’re delighted to announce this new and significant development in the agreement between Inter and EBay, following on from the start of the partnership a few months ago.

“The presence of the EBay logo on the club’s shirt sleeves is proof of our brand’s growing attractiveness, and

the reason behind a leading global ecommerce brand such as EBay choosing Inter as their first incursion into football sponsorship.”

“Innovation and the continuous pursuit of excellence are the bedrocks and shared values on which our partnership with Inter is based,” said Alice Acciarri, general manager of EBay Italia.

“This bond was further strengthened today with eBay gaining visibility on the club’s shirt, one of its most important commercial assets. We’re proud to have such prominence on what is a highly symbolic item for Inter fans.”
