Among the hype of cryptocurrency in the market, crime has been taking a new place. Yes, since the cryptocurrency has been rising with a good hype in the market, the hacking, crime, and laundering rate has been increasing in the market which is also rising the risk among the investors. Currently, two popular celebrities of the Internet, Ilya Lichtenstein, and Heather Morgan have been accused of a major cryptocurrency conspiracy. They both were charged on Tuesday with a conspiracy of laundering $3.6 billion in Bitcoin stolen from one of the biggest cryptocurrency exchange platforms. Ilya Lichtenstein and Heather Morgan is wife and husband.

Let us tell you that Heather Morgan is a resident of New York and must be 31-years-old. It claims to be many things as she is a prolific writer, a serial entrepreneur, investor in B2B software companies, and a comedic rapper. According to her LinkedIn profile, there is no clue anything about her alleged capability to help launder hacked cryptocurrency. On Tuesday morning, FBI agents arrested Morgan. She is well known by her rapper name Razzlekhan. Her husband, Ilya Lichtenstein was also arrested for conspiring to connect to the launder crypto in the 2016 Bitfinex hack that found 119,756 Bitcoin (BTC) drained from the crypto exchange.

Both proclaimed their innocence while appearance in a New York court on Tuesday. They were released on bonds of multi-million dollars. A Twiiter user, Nic Carter wrote,” This whole thing is a psyop to make us look stupid for being hacked by the most inept criminals on earth”. According to the sources, around 119,756 BTC stolen from the Bitfinex was worth about $72 million reported in August 2016, but now, the value of the coins is more than $5.1 billion.

After the hacking of 2016, people connected to the stolen coins have been moved small amounts of BTC in separate transactions, which leaves the bulk of the funds untouched. On the other side, the DoJ reported that they traced about 25,000 BTC of these transferred funds to financial accounts that were controlled by Lichtenstein and Morgan. Later, the special agents were able to gain access seize more than 94,000 BTC from Morgan. The worth of 94,000 BTC is around $3.6 billion at the time.

After a warrant, they were allowed to view files containing private keys to the wallet. The DoJ complaint charged them with laundering conspiracy and conspiracy to defraud the United States. The first charge can punish them by up to 20 years and the second one by 5 years in jail.
